  hasn't been a pope from germany since the 11th century.

  he was a very close friend of pope john paul ii and is expected to carry on along where the other pope left off.

  Yes, all hail the new pope, formerly Carnival Ratslinger, but now to be known as Bentdick XVI.

  He certainly appears to have all of the necessary credentials - the stint with the hitler youth obviously puts him in good stead, but doesn't say much for the other failed candidates.

  78 years of age. The RC church shouldn't expect much mileage out of him - so the millions of faithful can expect another one of the "biggest funeral of alltime" in the not too distant future. Joy, oh joy!

  today i read "doubtfully your's" comment on wiccans and i was shocked.

  i wanted to reply immediately about tolerance and to respect another religion.

  then i thought about him having a sister, smoking pot and presenting herself as pagan giving him some bad impression (prejudice?

  Question about Pope and Embalming

  i heard the pope wasn't embalmed.

  can someone shed some light on why he wasn't embalmed and how they prevented his body from decaying all week long.

  Most interesting. Perhaps another approach has been applied.

  When asking a friend of mine what he thought about the death of the pope, he replied - "the pope can go and get stuffed for all I care". And maybe that is just what the vatican did - called in the taxidermists.

  Having him on permanent display would be a big drawcard and a huge moneyspinner. Perhaps a world tour could be organised for all those millions who couldn't make it to Rome.

  Advantages to being a JW

  i'd say that the biggest advantage of being a jw is that you learn the bible.

  growing up a jw (never baptized), i had many friends (mostly catholic) who didn't even know where most books of the bible were even located.

  jws really do learn and study the bible and this knowledge becomes very helpful once you start looking at the bible more objectively and not with wts binders.

  Perhaps some posters neglect to check that their sarcasm radar is switched on before logging onto the board.

  Yes, people can believe in what ever may soothe their being, and may engage in whatever practices that form part of their religious experience. If they elect to be duped, hoodwinked, conned, deceived, bluffed, then that is their choice. Many others elect not to have their lives determined by superstition and fantasy. What a wonderful world we live in.

  I consider myself an unbiased and unprejudiced individual - I have the same contempt and disrespect for all religious beliefs and practises, and, no, being a witness did not instill that attitude in me, I had it long before I became a dub. Being a dub merely reinforced my opinions. Key phrase? "my opinions".

  Don't mistake safe work practices or personal habits for rituals. There is a distinction.

  And as far as the symbolic and fantastic rituals of catholicism, or any other religion for that matter are concerned, many people over many years have been hurt because of failing to understand that the ringing of the bells, the flowing robes, the gold chains, beads, swinging incense burners, and whatever else these magnificent ones do, it is because they wish to put their followers into "a certain mental state" whereby these followers will believe all these little 'acts' will be pleasing to some almighty being. A load of bunkum.

  cheeses. Thought for the day - If you don't believe your god to be a murdering malevolent thing, then you haven't been reading your bible correctly.

  P.S. I fail to see anyone ripping rituals to shreds - yet.

  Yes Dave, I agree. Finally realising that he was dead, and had been for many years, really did wonders for him. He really looked a picture of health. Perhaps more people should start using embalming fluid and stay away from botox and cosmetic surgery.

  So much so, that the lastest proposal coming from the vatican is that all future popes should be no younger than eighty years, so that these gala events can be enjoyed on a more regular basis.

  It's good for business.

  So the pope is laying in state. What state is that? I would say a state of progressive putrid decay.
